We open with Iran because it is the biggest story of the day, and we open it with a caveat written into the piece itself. Donald Trump has announced a package of sanctions described in very broad terms; Tehran has responded that it will resist and that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. As of our deadline, the text of the measures is not public, the dates of entry into force are not known, nor are the entities targeted. An announcement is not a measure, and until there is a readable act this newspaper will report nothing more than what was said and by whom.

The same logic orders the rest. The 2027 budget is at the top of Italian analysis because three independent accounts converge on a single point: the proposals exist, the funding does not. Bad weather in the North enters with the numbers of the evacuations — about 250 people from a campsite in Isola di Fondra, 57 in Sonico, around seventy in Vione — because there the facts have already happened. On Canada we have a timeline, and it is the most solid thing in today’s economic news: tariffs at 50% from August 22 on twenty billion in goods, countermeasures announced for September 8, negotiations suspended.

Ebola in Congo remains a thread we have followed for weeks: 5,290 confirmed cases and 2,516 deaths as of August 20 according to the ECDC, based on data from the Congolese Ministry of Health. It is an update, not a turning point, and we treat it as such. On Brazil and its 444 million in artificial intelligence we have a single source: we state this in the piece, as our charter requires, and we publish because the composition of the investment — more than half with Chinese suppliers — is a geopolitical fact verifiable within the announcement itself.

What is missing. Sport remains without an article: we had worked on the Zandvoort Grand Prix and the piece did not clear checks in time; it was not replaced, so today the section is uncovered and we are not pretending otherwise.
