Five sections uncovered, and the reason for each

I’ll start with the uncomfortable part. This morning’s edition does not meet the guaranteed coverage: Cinema & Entertainment, Culture, Economy and Markets, Foreign Affairs and Geopolitics and Sport remain without an article. Not for lack of material — there was some, and I looked for it — but because five pieces stalled in production and none was replaced in time.

I list what fell through, so the reader can judge. For Economy, the financial G20 that closed in Asheville with the Iranian dossier on the agenda. For Cinema, the opening of Venice 83 and the makeup of the productions in competition. For Sport, Djokovic’s exit in the first round of the US Open. For Foreign Affairs, the resumption of exchanges of attacks between the United States and Iran after a month-long pause. For Culture, the centenary of the Nobel to Grazia Deledda and the path opened by the Casa Museo in Nuoro. These are five gaps, not five absences of news: the difference matters and I state it.

What remains is chosen, not filler. Leading is Italian schooling, which from today applies the national Indicazioni of decree 221/2025 in place of the 2012 text: it concerns kindergarten, primary and lower secondary schools, and it is the kind of administrative shift that becomes noticeable only years later, once school curricula have taken shape.

In Health, the Istituto Superiore di Sanità bulletin on West Nile: 312 confirmed cases and 13 deaths as of August 19, distinguishing between neuroinvasive forms, fevers and infections found among blood donors. It is a surveillance figure, not an alarm, and should be read as such.

On Spain, an explicit warning within the piece: the figures for Ceuta — 5,000 people remaining, over 70,000 entries, 1,200 minors among those who stayed — come from a single source, a New York Times report picked up by Infobae based on statements by Pedro Sánchez on the radio. No independent confirmation. These are statements by the head of government, not a verified picture, and the doubt remains open pending third-party corroboration.

From Singapore, the choice by the national university to give ChatGPT Edu to the entire institution: it matters because it shifts the decision from the individual course to the institution.
