Train strike on September 7 and 8: schedules and guaranteed trains confirmed

The national railway stoppage announced for the coming week now has a defined scope: we wrote about it on September 1, when the news came from a single source and the text of the strike notices and the demands were missing. On September 2, 2026, the ANSA news agency reported confirmation of the strike by Gruppo FS Italiane staff from 9:18 PM on Monday, September 7 to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 (ANSA).

The schedule is now set out in an official company document: the notice published by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana indicates the start at 9:18 PM on Monday and the end at 9:00 PM on Tuesday. This is the element that allows the generic indication of dates to be replaced with a precise time span.

The unions that called the strike are also now known: CUB Trasporti, SGB and CAT, with demands relating to working conditions. This is the piece of information that was missing on Monday, when the report was limited to the calendar of dates.

The corporate scope is broader than Gruppo FS alone. RFI’s notice states that the strike involves staff of Gruppo FS Italiane, Italo and Trenord, and warns of the possibility of service changes even before the starting time (RFI). Trenitalia staff in the provinces of Trento and Bolzano remain excluded, however.

On the matter of guarantees, the two ordinary time bands apply to regional trains, from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM and from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Trenitalia, Italo and Trenord have published lists of the connections guaranteed during the strike (Il Post). Trenord has also specified that on the evening of September 7 service will run regularly for trains departing by 9:18 PM and arriving at their destination by 10:18 PM (MilanoToday).

The difference compared to Monday also lies in documentary solidity. Monday’s piece relied on a single source; today’s update rests on a news agency, on RFI’s official notice, and on two independent newsrooms, with the lists of guaranteed trains made public by the rail companies. The three independent sources required by our editorial standards are present, and the primary source is the infrastructure manager’s notice.

Some points remain open that the available material does not clarify. The demands of the three unions are described only in general terms as relating to working conditions, without the full text of the strike notices; at present there are no statements from the labor unions or from company counterparts cited in the sources consulted. There are also no updates on the at-risk days in air transport indicated in the September calendar we wrote about on September 1: on those dates, there are, as of today, no new verifiable elements, and the previous piece remains available at its original address.

For those needing to travel between Monday evening and Tuesday evening, there is a twofold operational reference: the 6-9 AM and 6-9 PM bands for regional trains, and the lists published by individual companies, which RFI notes may change even before 9:18 PM on Monday.
