News — Landslide in Valtellina, 45 evacuated; the Lambro overflows in Milan — Overnight the Scaiun landslide broke loose above the town of Cataeggio, in the municipality of Val Masino, sending debris, rocks and trees downhill: 45 people were evacuated in Valtellina. In Milan the Lambro river overflowed before returning to its banks. In the Marche region firefighters carried out more than 100 operations; in Tuscany more than 63,000 lightning strikes were recorded, with downpours in Grosseto and the Livorno area, while in Brescia a ward of the Spedali Civili hospital was flooded. Foreign Affairs and Geopolitics — Taiwan’s vice president in Ventotene — Hsiao Bi-khim arrived at the second European Conference for Freedom and Democracy, running from September 10 to 12. The arrival had been announced on September 10 by Pina Picierno, as reported by ANSA; the trip, not previously announced, was confirmed on September 11 by Taiwan’s foreign ministry, according to the United Daily News.
