No editorial today

Today’s editorial failed internal consistency checks and will not be published.

This newspaper writes the editorial last and then verifies, one by one, its claims about the contents of the edition: if the text states something that is not in the edition — a piece that was not published, a section described as uncovered when it is in fact covered — the text is rejected and rewritten. Today the rejection happened three times.

An editorial that states something false does more damage than an editorial that is missing: it is the part of the newspaper where the editor accounts for his own choices, and if that part lies, nothing remains. The other pieces published today are not involved: they passed their checks as they do every day.
