Unseasonable heat up to 28 degrees before bad weather returns to the South
After days with peaks of 27-28 degrees in some regions, forecasts indicate the return of rain to the South, in the same areas already hit by flooding and whirlwinds in recent weeks.
The newspaper already reported, in the October 10 edition, on the wave of bad weather that hit Lipari and Sicily with flooding and whirlwinds, leaving some families in the Trapani area still displaced. Days later, Italy has gone through an opposite phase: temperatures unseasonable for the time of year, now set to give way again to bad weather in precisely the regions previously hit hardest.
At 3pm on Thursday, October 15, temperatures reached peaks of 27 degrees in Sardinia, 26 degrees in Sicily and Emilia Romagna, with widespread values of 25 degrees on the plains of the North and in Tuscany, according to data processed by MeteoLive. Friday, October 16 — today — is expected to see the peak of this out-of-season heat, with highs of 27-28 degrees in two regions.
These are the same areas that, in the previous wave of bad weather reported by Sky TG24, saw streams overflow in Lipari, bringing debris and mud and flooding dozens of homes, while in Sicily some families remain displaced after whirlwinds hit the Trapani area. The contrast between the two phases — near-summer temperatures followed by the return of rain — follows a pattern already seen several times this autumn, when periods of unusual stability have preceded new storm fronts over the same southern regions.
The forecasts released by MeteoLive do not yet specify the intensity of the precipitation expected in the coming days, but they explicitly place the peak of the unseasonable heat on today’s date, suggesting an imminent change. In the areas where families remain displaced from the previous wave, the return of rain represents an additional cause for concern, in a territory that has not yet fully recovered from the damage of early October.
The picture emerging from the available sources is one of an autumn marked by sharp temperature swings, with periods of out-of-season heat alternating with waves of bad weather within the same geographic perimeter, between Lipari and the Trapani area, already scarred by the flooding and whirlwinds reported in recent weeks by this newspaper.
