After strike clashes, 60 searches in 23 Italian cities
Sixty searches over allegations of incitement to violence via social media and chat, as new details emerge about seizures and identifications.
The day after the clashes linked to the national strike, 60 searches were carried out in 23 Italian cities, according to ANSA on November 1st. The investigative activity is connected to the accusation of having used social media profiles and chats to incite violence in the streets during the days of mobilization.
The searches led to the seizure of material that, according to RaiNews, includes balaclavas, batons, glass-breaking hammers, air pistols, mobile phones and clothing items believed to be the proceeds of shop raids. The list of seized items reflects an operational picture that goes beyond mere participation in the marches, aiming to identify those who allegedly organized or incited episodes of violence through digital channels.
On the identification front, RaiNews reports that 369 people were identified in Rome, while 12 complaints were filed in Turin. The two figures come from different cities and concern distinct phases of the investigation: the identifications in the capital, where clashes had concentrated near the Colosseum, and the complaints in Turin, where tension had manifested in other forms during the days of mobilization.
The activity across 23 cities for a total of 60 searches marks a significant geographic expansion compared to the perimeter initially confined to the Rome unrest reported on the day of the strike. The investigation is thus widening its scope beyond the capital, seeking confirmation of the alleged social media orchestration behind the episodes of violence.
No elements have emerged, at this time, that change the picture of the complaints already known in Rome, where the number previously indicated remains distinct from the one reported today for Turin. The two cities remain the main reference points of the investigation, which focuses on the use of digital platforms as a coordination tool for street violence.
Today’s operational tally — 60 searches, 23 cities, seizures of items used in the clashes — represents the first aggregate data on the investigative activity following the day of national mobilization, with no further developments regarding the people involved in the searches having been disclosed at this time.
