Anthropic aims to raise $3.5 billion from Japan for its listing
The developer of the Claude chatbot has filed documents in Japan to sell shares worth 552.9 billion yen as part of its listing in the United States, surpassing the Japanese allocation of SpaceX's IPO.
Anthropic, the company that develops the Claude chatbot, aims to raise up to $3.5 billion from Japanese investors as part of its public listing in the United States. The corporate filing, published on Monday, November 2, 2026 and reported by Nikkei Asia and Reuters, shows that the company will sell up to 552.9 billion yen in shares in Japan.
The filed document does not specify either the overall size of the initial public offering or the final valuation attributed to the company. Some investors, according to the same sources, have discussed a valuation of around $1.5 trillion for Anthropic, a figure that does not appear in the official documents, however.
| Data | Value |
|---|---|
| Expected raise in Japan | up to 552.9 bn yen ($3.5 bn) |
| Revenue H1 2026 | $16.3 bn |
| Revenue H1 2025 | $1.2 bn |
| Operating loss H1 2026 | $693 million |
| Japan allocation SpaceX IPO (June) | $2.2 bn out of $75 bn raised |
The comparison with the most recent precedent helps to frame the scale of the operation. In SpaceX’s IPO last June, the largest ever carried out, Japanese investors secured shares worth $2.2 billion out of a total of $75 billion raised globally. The allocation planned for Anthropic would exceed that figure by about 60%, even though the overall operation is smaller.
The sale of shares in Japan will be handled by Mizuho Securities, while international subscription requests will be managed by Goldman Sachs, Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities and Morgan Stanley MUFG Securities. On the financial front, Anthropic recorded revenue of $16.3 billion in the first half of 2026, compared with $1.2 billion in the same period of 2025, accompanied by an operating loss of $693 million.
