Bank earnings reports: Bper and FinecoBank rise, Leonardo falls despite record results
The first nine months of 2026 reward Bper and FinecoBank on the stock market, but it is not enough for Leonardo: the stock falls despite results and orders at record highs.
Bper closed the first nine months of 2026 with an ordinary net profit of 2.01 billion euros, up 16.4% compared to the same period the previous year (FIRSTonline; QuiFinanza). The figure confirms the tendency of major Italian banks to maintain high margins in a context of still elevated interest rates, and translated into an appreciation of the stock on Piazza Affari in the November 5 session.
On the same day, FinecoBank gained 3.88% following the publication of its results for the first nine months of the year, ranking among the best-performing stocks on the Milan exchange. The institution, specializing in wealth management and online trading, benefited from a market that rewarded growth in assets under management and fee income, according to the same financial sources.
The opposite case is that of Leonardo, which turned out to be the worst-performing stock on Piazza Affari at the opening of the session despite quarterly results described as record-breaking and an upward revision of full-year forecasts. The defense group announced orders at record highs, but the market reacted with selling: a pattern that occurs in financial markets when investor expectations, already high after months of gains in the defense sector, exceed even objectively positive results.
The three cases capture a trading day in which stock reactions depend not only on the figures published, but on the comparison between those figures and the expectations that had formed in the preceding weeks: a mechanism that explains why record profits and orders do not, on their own, guarantee a rise during the session.
