The round that closes the long qualification process for the 2026/27 Champions League lines up fourteen teams for seven places in the league phase. The first legs were played on 18 and 19 August, the second legs are set for 25 and 26 August; the draw that will shape the league phase bracket is scheduled for Thursday 27 August at 18:00 (Central European time), according to the calendar published by UEFA and echoed in the schedule of TNT Sports.

The first evening produced three closely balanced results: Dinamo Zagreb-Viking 2-2, Levski Sofia-AEK Athens 0-0, Fenerbahçe-Olympique Lyon 1-1. None of the six teams involved goes into the second leg with a margin, and in two of the three cases the away side scored at least one goal on the road — a circumstance that, with the abolition of the away-goals rule in European club competitions, no longer counts as an arithmetical advantage but still indicates how the defences performed.

The evening of 19 August, on the other hand, delivered the only clearly one-sided result among those confirmed so far: Bodø/Glimt won 3-1 away to NEC Nijmegen. It is the most significant result of the round, because a Norwegian side — which plays in a calendar-year league, and is therefore in full mid-season form in August — put three goals past a Dutch club that has only just started its own championship. The scheduling gap between the Nordic leagues and the rest of the continent is a recurring variable in the summer play-offs, and here it translated into a scoreline.

The same day also featured Hapoel Beer Sheva-Sabah, Slovan Bratislava-Celje and Celtic-LASK. The results of these three matches do not appear in the sources consulted at the time of publication: we will report them once they can be verified through an official source.

It is worth recalling what is truly at stake. The seven eliminated teams do not go home: they automatically move into the Europa League league phase. In Guatemala, Deportivo Mixco faced Panama’s UMECIT in the Concacaf Copa Centroamericana, a first-ever meeting between the two clubs.
