Non-stop negotiations in Doha and Tehran to avert a new war between the US and Iran
Mediators are working tirelessly between Qatar and Iran to prevent the conflict from resuming, as Washington redeploys forces in the Middle East and Trump speaks of "one or two targets" still to be addressed.
Negotiations between international mediators and Tehran are multiplying in an effort to prevent the conflict between the United States and Iran from resuming after the current truce. According to reports, “marathon” discussions took place in Tehran and then continued in Doha with Qatari mediators, in an atmosphere described as showing positive signs but accompanied, on both sides, by preparations suggesting the possibility of a return to arms.
Iranian negotiators are in Doha for talks with Qatari mediators after discussions lasting more than twelve hours in Tehran, according to Reuters and picked up by Arab outlets. At the same time, the US military is redeploying its forces in the Middle East, a move that would precede any new order by President Donald Trump to strike targets in Iran.
Trump himself, speaking to reporters in Palm Beach on October 31, said that talks with Iran are going well. The American president added that “one or two targets” would remain to be addressed, while also claiming that Iran’s nuclear capabilities had already been destroyed by previous operations.
Among the sites cited by Trump is Pickaxe Mountain, a name that, according to the Times of Israel, is identified by Western intelligence as a possible storage site for Iranian nuclear material, and which has not so far been hit by the United States during the current conflict.
The picture emerging from these hours is one of a double track: on one side, diplomatic negotiations continuing on multiple fronts, and on the other, an American military posture that does not rule out further action. The coming hours in Doha will show whether the discussions launched after the negotiating marathon in Tehran will produce a stable agreement or whether the movements of American troops in the Middle East will herald a new chapter of the conflict.
