Orange alert in the South, roof collapses in Crotone
A new weather system hits Puglia, Basilicata, Abruzzo and Campania: schools closed in several municipalities and an apartment building roof fell onto the street with no injuries reported.
The Civil Protection Department has issued an orange weather alert for Puglia and part of Basilicata for November 3, 2026, in addition to a yellow alert extended to four other regions in Central-Southern Italy. This is the picture of a weather system that has been persisting over the same areas for hours, with rainfall accumulations that in some spots have already exceeded one hundred millimeters in a single day.
In Lecce, the Puglia regional civil protection’s gauge measured 113.4 millimeters of rain over the past 24 hours. The highest figure, however, comes from Orsara di Puglia, where precipitation reached 120 millimeters, according to readings reported by NoiNotizie. These are numbers that place this episode among the most intense events of the autumn season in the region, although confined to a specific area of Puglia’s territory.
The most concrete effects of the bad weather were seen in Crotone, in Calabria, where wind tore off the roof of an apartment building, causing it to fall onto the central Via Mario Nicoletta. According to Adnkronos, the incident caused no injuries, but made it necessary to secure the affected area, located on a street in the city center.
On the school front, several municipalities have opted for precautionary closures of schools pending safety checks on buildings. This is the case for Chieti, Lanciano and San Michele di Serino, as well as all municipalities in the Policoro area, according to the list reported by Il Messaggero. This number of closures reflects the geographic breadth of the weather front, extending from Abruzzo to the Ionian coast of Basilicata.
The overall picture emerging from the sources consulted — the Civil Protection Department’s bulletin, regional readings from Puglia and local news reports — describes a weather system persisting mainly over Puglia and Basilicata, with an isolated but significant episode in Calabria. School closures, spread across Abruzzo, Campania and Basilicata, remain the most widespread measure adopted by local authorities while awaiting the weather front to exhaust its force.
