Oslo bids farewell to King Harald V, 224,000 people along the procession
On September 9, Norway held the state funeral of the sovereign who died on August 28 at 89 years old: a national minute of silence at 1pm, a half-hour procession to the cathedral, monarchs and heads of government in the cathedral. The 2026 State of the Union address is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, at 9 a.m. before the European Parliament's plenary session. It is the second such address of the von der Leyen II Commission's term, which took office in December 2024. The European Commission granted Madrid emergency aid of 114.7 million euros to manage the crisis following the irregular entries of July 30 and 31, 2026: according to El País the funds go toward border surveillance, infrastructure and technology, including thermal cameras and underwater drones. The weekly Forsa poll for RTL and ntv, conducted from September 1 to 7 on 2,502 people, shows AfD at 28%, the Union at 21%, the Greens at 16%, SPD at 12%, Linke at 11%, FDP at 4% and BSW at 3%. In eastern Germany 91% of respondents say they are dissatisfied with the chancellor's work, compared with 83% in the west. The OECD published on September 8th the results of the survey of roughly 760,000 students in 91 countries. In France the decline is 16 points in mathematics and 18 in reading comprehension; in Germany mathematics falls to 464 points.
